Houdini Studies_2017-2018
A collection of personal work, tutorials, and studies.
Vellum Work
Had a friendly competition between Houdini and Cinema 4D for an Atkins job at Union Editorial. Example of a more complicated bullet and vellum sim on left, official final visualization with personal “fun” mantra render on the right. Main goal was to get a complete understanding of grain techniques within vellum.
Path Seeker
Fun little algorithm combined with some basic wire simulation. The head of the wire chases the particle when it comes within a certain distance.
Tutorial: Tree Sim
Extremely informative training I did within a tutorial with Andrew Lowell. Utilized a wire simulation to generated a full fledged tree sim, complete with falling leaves from an accompanying pop solver. All credit goes to Andrew Lowell, though I learned a great deal, and was forced to carry over some relatively old concepts into newer Houdini versions on my own to make it work.
Tutorial: Rigids with Steve Knipping
Tutorial from CG circuit with Steve Kipling. Again, all credit goes to him. Still an extremely informative process. Gave me a solid understanding of rigid body dynamics within Houdini using the bullet solver.
Flip, Cloth, Fluid Test
Personal attempt to combine some of the material I had learned over a couple years of personal houdini training. Attempt, at least somewhat successful here, was to combine three simulations at once, flip, cloth, and fluid.
Reaction Diffusion
Personal attempt to replicate the cellular phenomena found in certain voronoi plant cells starting from a simulation.
Keep an eye out here for Houdini experiments and tinkering:
